Saturday was my birthday, so Tristan and I spent a lovely evening in St Paul’s which, started with cocktail at Madison’s and then a wonderful dinner at Jamie Oliver’s new restaurant Barbocoa.
Whilst we waited to be seated (which seemed to take a long time even though we had a reservation) we snacked on some very naughty pork scratchings with apple and thyme sauce and sipped on cocktails (and beer).
I’m not normally a fan of pork scratchings but I thought I’d give them a go anyway, and it was totally worth it. They were so delicious, just the right mixture of crunchy and soft with an amazing smokey flour.
The wait to be seated was most definitely worth it as we had the most spectacular view of St Paul’s Cathedral. I’m almost certain we had the best table in the house.
For starters Tristan had lightly smoked duck breast with blood orange & watercress salad and pomegranate dressing. This was incredible, the duck was cooked to perfection and complemented by the lovely dressing.
But it was nothing compared to my dish.
I had scallop ceviche with grapefruit, pink peppercorn, fennel and jalapeño.
This was truly amazing. You can tell a lot of thought had gone into this dish as it all worked so beautifully.
This could well be the best starter I’ve had.
For the main, we both ordered the dry-aged sirloin steak with bourbon green peppercorn Sauce and sticky roasted red onions. I find it very difficult not to order steak when it’s on the menu, especially in a place so well know for its meat.
We had a side dish of mac and cheese with smoked bacon, which was so good but slightly al dente
And duck fat chips with volpaia vinegar & salt.
All in all, this meal was amazing and really topped off my birthday weekend. I will definitely be visiting here again, I just hope we manage to get this table!
