Bills have recently opened a new branch just off the Strand by Covent Garden, so Tristan and I thought we’d pop down and have a look.
I’ve been to the St Martins Courtyard branch before and had one of the best burgers ever so its fair to say that I had high expectations.
The restaurant had been decorated brilliantly, as soon as you walk in you feel like you’ve been transported into a 1920/1930’s cafe as the walls are covered in trinkets and sweet boxes, which you can buy HERE. You’re then lead into an unexpectedly large dining area which has a lovely quirky east London feel to it.
To start we order the hummus and tzatziki dip with wholemeal pitta, which was lovely and perfectly sized for brunch starter.
For my main I couldn’t decide between the Mac and Cheese, which sounded dreamy or the Avocado and Bacon Salad with a side of skin on fries. I finally opted for the salad with the mindset that it might be a little bit healthier than pasta.
It wasn’t. It was delicious but definitely not healthy.
The bacon was just how I like it, burnt to a crisp and full of flavour. Just how the Americans do it. It really was a great salad, full with bacon, avocado, parmesan, lettuce and a boiled egg (so a teeny bit healthy :s. I left feeling satisfied and full, but not too stuffed so I think opting for a smaller main with a side was a good idea.
After hearing me rave about the amazing burger I had at their other branch, Tristan decided to follow suit with big juicy burger with all the trimmings and skinny fries. The burger was cooked to perfection and he eve said that this was one of the best burgers he’s had in a long time. Better than any we had in New York! I have a feeling we’ll be coming back here very soon.
The staff could not have been friendlier or more accommodating, even when putting up with my indecisive-ness. I would highly recommend paying these guys a visit and I will definitely be coming back even if its just to try the Mac and Cheese.
