Earlier this month I went on a mini spa break with my two best friends for little get away and pamper weekend. We headed to the Macdonald Berystede Hotel and Spa in Ascot, which is the most beautiful area just outside of London and far enough from the city that you feel like you’re in the countryside. I’ve stayed at Macdonald Spa’s before and they are by far the best for pampering and relaxation. They’re also all over the UK which makes it really easy to plan short weekends away. We arrived early Saturday morning armed with our bikinis and ready to to truly pampered.
We checked into our room where we were greeting with a lovely bunch of roses and lilies from my friends boyfriend for her birthday- major brownie points! The hotel had also very sweetly arranged a little happy birthday message in chocolate with strawberries. Once all checked in we headed down to the spa for our massages and pamper session. After being buffed and polished we spent a good 4 hours lounging around the various pool and sauna areas before heading back to the room.
After a nap and a glass of prosecco we headed down to dinner in the hotel restaurant, which is a beautiful open plan room with so much natural light pouring in from the huge windows, which made every single glass on the table sparkle. To start with I had the scallops with pea puree and smoked pancetta, which if like me you’re a scallop lover then this will be your dream starter. For my main I went for T bone steak with bearnaise sauce and huge chunky chips with onion rings that looked like huge doughnuts, and that’s not a bad thing.
Finally even though I felt like I could pop we forced ourselves to have the chocolate pudding for desert, which would make even those not that keen on chocolate weak at the knees! After dinner we retired to the lounge area for a little night cap before heading back to the room for some face masks and movies.
Sometimes I find that you don’t have to travel miles away from home to feel totally refreshed, you just need time out of the day to day routine and you’re ready to go again. If you’re on the look out for a relaxing weekend I’d recommend checking out the Macdonald Spa’s and Hotel’s as I’ve been to quite a few now and always had a great experience.
